And truth be told… even just to have when at home! I got my idea from Laura at I’m an Organizing Junkie. Go and check out her awesome organizing skills and projects.
In the past, when going on vacation, I would just throw in a bottle of this and a bottle of that. Oh, and don’t forget the band aids. But it would never fail that I would always forget something..one of those weird things that you think “oh, I never use this so I don’t need to bring it”. So, after seeing Laura’s traveling pharmacy, I knew I had to create one of my own for my family.
First up, find a cheap/clearanced make up bag. Target to the rescue on that. Target has a great selection of make up bags. You can also find them at Amazon ,(affiliate link) TJ Maxx, Mashalls, Kohls. Almost anyplace that sells make up will carry them. Find a size that will fit your family. Who will this be for? Just kids? Whole family? Mom and Dad?
I knew that this one would mainly be for the boys but wanted it large enough to throw in some extras for my husband and I when needed.
When opening up, on the left side it has a zipper mesh pouch.
I loved that this specific one has the middle compartment. (please ignore the nails..we just got back from a week-long lake vacation and my nails took a beating!)
On the right side there is a plastic pouch to catch anything that leaks or spills.
Next, I needed to figure out what my traveling pharmacy would hold. I had a hard time with this because I don’t do a lot of medicine for my family. When we are at home I do more oils and natural remedies, but when I travel I like to keep it easy for the most part so I put in more traditional medications-ones that travel well.
When I started this project I actually had to go out and buy new stuff because most of mine were way beyond the expiration date….like…oh say…. 2 or more years. Yikes!
Also, before we go on a vacation/trip I’ll take a peek to make sure I have the basics covered and if I need to add more to the little first aid kit that I include I will add at this time. Our band aids seem to disappear really fast from there 😉
Then I start to assemble. I try to keep things separated a little but it really depends on how much is going in there and making sure I can zip it up when done! HA!
On the left side I place our first aid type of items along with adult medicines.
I put little items that tend to get lost in the middle zipper pockets. I also have a nail kit that goes in the middle zipper but someone took off with it and never replaced it 🙁
On the other side of the middle zipper pocket I keep ointments, drops, homemade oil roller balls, etc.
On the left side in the plastic pocket I keep most liquid medications. They fit so nice in there!
And it all looks so pretty when done!
Most importantly, it is all in one place. So easy to grab and go!
What are some items that you would keep or do keep in your traveling pharmacy?
